You might think all doctors need the exact same skills, values, and personal traits. The reality is very different. There are more than 60 medical specialties across the NHS.

There are opportunities for people who enjoy solving problems, leading teams and helping others. The pathfinder helps you reflect on your own strengths and how you like to work. It'll also help you discover new career possibilities to chat about with parents or teachers.

How the tool works

You'll complete a short series of activities designed to explore your preferences. We use a career framework called RIASEC that looks at different interests and work environments.

Next, you'll be matched to one of our personas. Each one represents a different combination of strengths and working styles. We'll then suggest areas of medicine that people with similar interests often enjoy.

Your results are a starting point

Your result is just designed to spark your curiosity. You might see yourself strongly in your report, or you might recognise parts of yourself in several different personas. That's completely normal.

Your interests and skills will keep developing over time as you go through school. The most important thing is to keep an open mind.
