Scottish Medical Training
After medical school, foundation training is the next step in your education pathway to a career as a doctor. You’ll then complete specialty training to become a fully qualified doctor.

As a qualified doctor, you’ll be eligible to register with the General Medical Council (GMC) and practise in the UK. The GMC provides a guide for international medical graduates. It explains how to apply for full registration with a licence to practise.
Scotland Deanery
The Scotland Deanery works in partnership with NHSScotland Health Boards and GP practices to provide the following to doctors at all stages of their careers:
- education and training
- appraisal
- revalidation
- continuing development
