Consultant
A consultant is a senior doctor with overall responsibility for patient care in a hospital.
What you’ll need to work as an NHS consultant
To work as a consultant at NHSScotland, you must have completed a minimum of 6 years of training in your specialty to gain a certificate of completion of training (CCT). You’ll also need to be listed on the General Medical Council's (GMC) specialist register and have a full license to practice.
If you have not trained in the UK, you can gain specialist registration through the Portfolio pathway route instead of CCT.
Find out how to apply for specialist registration with the GMC through the Portfolio pathway.
