Getting in

The University of Dundee Medical School is looking for more than just grades. They want well-rounded, motivated students.

• Academic entry—For Highers, you'll need Chemistry or Biology, plus another science subject like Mathematics. You'll also need a grade A at National 5 in both Biology and Chemistry. Dundee offers adjusted entry requirements for eligible students through widening participation pathways.
• UCAT—The University Clinical Aptitude Test is an important part of your application to study medicine. The admissions team will combine your UCAT score and academic record to give you a pre-interview ranking score. There's no fixed minimum cut-off, so those highest-scoring group will be invited to interview.
• Interviews—If you're invited to an interview, it's your ideal opportunity to demonstrate that you're a well-rounded, motivated person who can communicate naturally, collaborate easily in teams, and show a genuine passion for medicine.
• Open days and outreach—You can get excellent work experience through the medicINSIGHT programme at any time of the year. If you're eligible, Reach activities give you direct coaching and application support to help you apply. You can also explore the medical school yourself by coming to an open day on Saturday 26 September or Saturday 31 October 2026.

Teaching style and student support

Dundee's curriculum is designed to make you feel and think like a doctor from day one. Foundational sciences are integrated closely with clinical teaching, using traditional lectures alongside diverse group-based sessions.

• Spiral curriculum—This means you'll revisit and build on your knowledge throughout the degree programme. You won't just learn something once and forget it—it'll be reinforced as you progress.
• Hands-on from the start—The medical school is uniquely embedded centrally within Ninewells Hospital. Staff, patients, and students all use the same front door. This gives you early, extensive exposure to a real clinical environment.
• Anatomy—A standout feature's the full-body dissection using Thiel-embalmed cadavers. This embalming method preserves the features of a living body, so you learn anatomy that mimics what you'll see in real practice.
• Student support—Students love the supportive atmosphere. The medical school has a proud history of creating a welcoming environment. You'll join a "medic family" where senior students act as surrogate parents to share advice.
• Support networks—If you need help, pastoral advice is accessible Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. The university offers a counselling service, disability services, an academic skills centre, and an enquiry centre.
