What is Here for Life?

Here for Life is a campaign to empower nurses and midwives to show us what they do, showcasing the professionalism, knowledge and skills required to do the role.

A recent survey showed that the public have admiration for nurses, with nursing considered one of the top-three professions in the UK. Yet many people do not realise the diversity of the roles. Here for Life aims to educate the public on the diversity of the nursing profession, by allowing nurses to tell their own stories.

Supporting life at every stage

The launch of Here for Life coincides with the celebration of International Nurses’ Day (12 May) and follows a week after International Day of the Midwife (5 May). It aims to highlight the incredible, and often lifelong, commitment of nurses and midwives to their professions. There is more information on our Midwifery Here for Life page.

Here for Life also supports the release of ‘Enabling Professionalism 2022’. This is a new framework that will help nurses and midwives to express who they are and what they do.

To help with this, we asked nurses working in NHSScotland to tell us their stories. Watch the videos and read their blogs at our Career stories page and find out what being a nurse means to them.

The Here for Life campaign is delivered in partnership between the five Chief Nursing Officers of the UK and Ireland and the RCN Foundation, an independent charity that supports nursing and midwifery staff across the UK through hardship and education grants. Find out more at the RCN Foundation website.

NHSScotland nurses are here for life, every step of the way.
