Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a trainee operating department practitioner.

Lots of people may not be aware of what an operating department practitioner does. ODP's care for patients before, during, and after surgery. It involves a variety of different steps and involves lots of different healthcare professionals, such as surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetists. It is a very important role.

I decided to become an ODP because I was inspired by my aunty who has been an ODP for 20 years. I have always been interested in my aunty's line of work. She is the one who told me about the course and I chose to look into it.

What I love most about the course is that is 60 percent practical. You're paired up with experienced mentors, who help you throughout the course.

What I found most surprising about the course is how quickly I became part of the team. The training program will help me achieve my career goals, as it opens up a variety of opportunities and different careers.

Why did you decide to become an operating department practitioner?

I decided to become an ODP because I was inspired by my aunty who has been an ODP for 20 years. I have always been interested in her line of work. She is the one who told me about the Diploma in Operating Department Practice, so I decided to look into it because of her.
